More about me

I am Harley Zhong
Filmmaker and Photographer
Based in NYC

I have been fascinated by the possibilities of photography since kindergarten. I grew up in Hangzhou, China, mostly known for its beautiful scenery and the West Lake. At the age of 12, I flew across the globe to purse my studies in the U.S. at Eaglebrook School. I continured my photography there and actively took pictures for school and sports events. My passion for photography never stopped as I headed into high school at Phillips Academy Andover, where I slowly furthered my interest as a filmmaker. There, I founded Your PA Memories, a media platform that collects the campus community's memories of everyday life through our photographer's lens. Later, I initiated the project "Making the Invisible Visible," a series of documentary episodes that aim to uncover the stories of those working behind the scenes.

I love photography because it enables me to forget about everything that happens around me every day. I enjoy every moment when I can travel, be outside, and discover the beauty of nature or interesting places. I try to pay special attention at good composition and light, which are the basis of good photography for me. I believe that the compelling visual language of photography and film can bring back those often-overlooked yet important stories to life in a way that words and voices alone cannot achieve.
